How Much Does a Farm CCTV System Cost? The 2026 Price Guide
Ask three installers what a farm CCTV system costs and you'll get three very different numbers, because a "farm CCTV system" ranges from one camera on a gate to forty across a whole estate. But you can price it sensibly once you know the three things that drive the cost — and the one running cost most quotes quietly leave out. Last updated: September 2026. The three things that set the price The cameras — resolution, zoom and AI detection. A basic fixed camera costs less than a 4K long-range zoom PTZ with AI. The power — mains where you have it, solar where you don't. A solar and battery kit adds cost per camera but reaches the field corners and outbuildings that have no supply. The connectivity — and this is where farms overpay. A 4G camera needs its own SIM and its own monthly data plan. That's fine for one camera. It becomes the whole cost of the system once you want several. What it actually costs — three worked examples One camera on a far gate or field entrance. Solar-powered, 4G, so it works with no mains and no broadband. Budget roughly £250–£500 for the camera and solar kit depending on resolution and zoom, plus a SIM and data plan for that one camera. This is the right tool for a single spot beyond any network — covered in our solar 4G camera buyer's guide. A yard of four to six cameras. Here the SIM-per-camera model falls apart, and Wi-Fi HaLow changes the sums: one access point links every camera back to a single internet connection with no SIM behind any of them. A HaLow access point is £114.50 (0.1W) to £225.50 (2W for kilometre-class range); HaLow cameras run from about £120 for a 5MP AI bullet to £185 for a 4K 20x zoom. A five-camera yard network is roughly £1,000 of hardware, once — and then it costs nothing a month to run. A whole farm or estate. Multiple sheds, the yard, the drive and a few field corners: a mix of HaLow around the buildings and one or two solar 4G cameras for the far corners beyond radio range. The hardware scales with the number of views you want; the design is what matters, and we'll draw it for you free. See the whole-farm CCTV page. The running cost nobody quotes: the SIM A single 4G camera's SIM and data plan runs roughly £5–£10 a month. Put six 4G cameras up and you're paying £300–£600 every year, forever, just to keep watching your own buildings. Over three years that's often more than the cameras cost. That is the real case for HaLow around the buildings: the cameras are free to run, so the day-one hardware price is the whole price. You keep the odd 4G camera only where it earns its SIM — the gate half a mile from anywhere. We lay the full comparison out in how HaLow changes the sums on a whole-farm network.
