What SIM and data plan do I need?
Our 4G thermal cameras run on any UK network — EE, Vodafone, O2 or Three — so you can pick whichever has the strongest signal out at the field edge or yard. Bring your own SIM or take a pre-configured one from us. Most units accept standard unlocked SIMs, and some offer dual-SIM failover so cover holds if one network drops in a rural notspot.
A thermal camera generally uses 15 to 40 GB of data a month, set by how much movement crosses its view and your recording quality. That's less than an optical camera because heat images carry less detail. A normal mobile data plan usually covers it, and you can fine-tune the settings in the app to keep usage down on a metered SIM.

No — thermal cameras show a heat outline rather than facial detail. If you need to identify an individual, choose a dual-sensor model that adds an optical camera alongside the thermal sensor.
How far can it detect movement across a field?
It depends on the lens, but thermal units typically pick up a person at 300m to 1km or more, and a vehicle or quad at even greater distances — ideal for wide-open rural ground.
Will it still work in wet weather?
Yes — thermal imaging copes well with rain, fog and light snow, which is exactly when farm and estate sites are most exposed. Heavy downpours can trim the range a little but detection continues.
Do I need planning permission to fit one?
In most cases no permission is needed, but you do have to meet privacy rules where cameras might catch neighbouring land or footpaths. We'll advise on sensible positioning and the right signage.
How much data does a 4G thermal camera get through?
Thermal footage is lighter than optical video — usually 15 to 40 GB a month depending on how much movement it detects and your recording settings. A standard data plan is normally plenty.
